It is situated on 2, I. L. Caragiale St., having building authorization from July 28, 1897, architect Lipot Baumhorn, builder Josef Kremer). 
The opening ceremony was on September 3, 1899.

The synagogue was built in the 1900s style, the eclectic szeceszió movement, having Romanesque, Gothic and Moorish architecture elements. It is now used by the Timişoara National Theater.
